The Best Air Fryer Toaster Ovens of 2026

Oven-style machines toast, bake and hold a rack — and cost you counter to do it. Compared on the two specs that actually decide the purchase: interior height and depth.

The Ninja SP101is the oven-style air fryer we would buy first, because it answers the format's real objection: it flips up and stands against the backsplash, so it only occupies counter while you cook. If you would rather have warranty than storage tricks, the Cuisinart TOA-70 carries a 3-year warranty and is the shallowest machine here at 12.25 inches deep. The Instant Omni Plus gives you the most functions per dollar, the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is the one that genuinely replaces an oven, and the BLACK+DECKER 6-Slice is the cheap way in. An air fryer toaster oven is a different machine from the drawer-style fryer most of this site is about. It has a door, racks and a crumb tray, it toasts bread and bakes a tray of cookies, and it air fries as one function among eight or ten rather than as the whole point. That flexibility is real. So is the cost: every machine on this page eats more counter than any basket air fryer we track, and most of them are heavy enough that once they land, they stay.

Basket or oven-style? Answer this first

This is the question worth settling before you look at a single price, because the two formats are not competing on quality — they are competing on shape.

A basket air fryer puts food in a small, enclosed drawer directly beneath a fan and element. Short distance, small cavity, hard airflow. That geometry is why basket machines crisp aggressively and preheat in a minute or two, and it is why almost every one of them tells you to cook in a single layer. Our main air fryer guide ranks that field.

An oven-style machine spreads the same job across a box with racks. You get real toasting, real baking, two levels on the larger models, a glass door you can watch through, and a machine that reheats a slice of pizza without a basket to wash. What you give up is footprint and, on cheaper models, some crisping intensity — a bigger cavity means the air has further to travel and more empty space to heat.

The short version: buy a basket if crisping is the job, and buy oven-style if the machine has to earn its counter space by doing several jobs — especially if it can retire a separate toaster. If you are deciding between an air fryer and a plain toaster oven rather than between these two air-fryer formats, that is a different comparison and we make it in air fryer vs. toaster oven. And if what you actually want is a full-size convection oven, read air fryer vs. convection oven first.

How we ranked them

Oven-style machines are sold on function counts, and function counts are close to meaningless — "bagel" and "toast" are the same heating profile with a different timer. We ranked on four things you can actually check on a spec sheet:

  • Interior height. The most under-published and most decisive number in the category. It is what determines whether a whole chicken, a Dutch oven or a tall loaf fits, and a machine can be enormous on the outside and still be three inches tall inside.
  • Depth, not width. Standard counters run about 25 inches from wall to edge, and you need clearance behind a machine that vents hot air. Depth is what pushes an oven-style unit into your working space; width just eats the run.
  • Warranty. These have doors, hinges, fans and multiple elements — more things to fail than a basket fryer has. The spread here is one year to three, which is a larger real difference than most of the feature lists.
  • Published wattage. We compute running cost from the manufacturer's own figure and omit it entirely when they do not state one.

We have not lab-tested these machines and we do not claim crisping results we did not measure. Where a manufacturer makes a performance claim we attribute it to them rather than adopting it. Our full method is on how we review.

Where each pick earns its place

Ninja SP101 — the one that gives the counter back

Every other machine on this page is a permanent resident. The SP101 is not: it flips up and away to stand vertically against the backsplash, and Ninja states that takes up 50% less space stored. In a kitchen where counter is the scarce resource — which is most kitchens — that single hinge is worth more than two extra cooking functions.

The rest is solid rather than exotic: 1,800 watts, eight functions (air fry, air roast, air broil, bake, bagel, toast, dehydrate, keep warm), a 60-second preheat, and a toast darkness selector. Ninja rates it for a 13-inch pizza, nine slices of toast, or six 6-to-8-ounce chicken breasts, and states 45% more usable pan area than Cuisinart's TOA-60 and TOA-65 pans — their comparison, not ours. It measures 14.96 by 19.72 by 7.56 inches and weighs 18.56 lb.

The cons are specific and you should take them seriously. Ninja publishes the interior height as approximately 3 inches — unusually honest of them, and it means no whole chicken, no tall casserole, no Dutch oven. At 19.72 inches deep it is the deepest thing here even though it is the shortest, so the flip-up trick buys you height back, not depth. And the warranty is the category-standard one year.

Cuisinart TOA-70 — three-year warranty, shallowest body

The TOA-70 wins the two arguments that matter most a year into ownership. It is 12.25 inches deep — several inches shallower than everything else here, which is the difference between a machine that sits behind your working space and one that sits in it. And Cuisinart backs it with a 3-year limited warranty, triple the norm in this format.

Inside the 0.6-cubic-foot cavity you get 1,800 watts across eight functions — air fry, toast, convection bake, bake, convection broil, broil, grill and warm — with an adjustable temperature dial from Warm to 450°F, a 60-minute timer with auto-shutoff, and a toast shade selector. Cuisinart rates it for six slices of bread, 3 lb of wings, a 12-inch pizza or a 4-lb chicken, and includes an oven rack, a baking pan, an air fry basket and a ceramic nonstick reversible grill/griddle plate.

Against it: 25.35 lbis dense for a machine this size, so it is not moving once you place it. The controls are dials rather than saved presets, which is a real downgrade if you want to hand it to someone else and have them press one button. And the stated range starts at "Warm" with no published low-temperature proofing figure, so bread bakers should look at the Breville instead.

Instant Omni Plus — the most machine per dollar

Nineteen quarts, ten functions and a rotisserie spit for less money than most eight-function ovens is a genuinely good deal, and the Omni Plus is the pick if you want the widest capability list without stepping up a price tier. Instant states 1,800 watts at 120 V, UL and ULC listed, with golden quartz infrared elements and a double-layer glass door.

One spec here is quietly more useful than the headline count: the range runs from 170 to 450°F, and that 170°F floor is the lowest in this guide. It is what makes the dehydrate function real rather than a label, and it is what lets you hold food genuinely warm without slowly cooking it. Instant rates the cavity for six slices of bread or a 12-inch pizza, and the enamel tray, basket and accessories are dishwasher-safe.

The honest cons: at 29.25 lband 16.53 inches deep it is a heavy, permanent fixture. Instant's listing states that a warranty exists but publishes no term for it, which is a meaningful gap next to Cuisinart's explicit three years — we are not going to guess a number on their behalf. And a rotisserie spit is one of those features that is a delight twice a year and a nuisance to clean every other time.

Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro — the one that replaces an oven

The BOV900BSS is the only machine in this guide built like an actual oven rather than a box with a fan in it. Breville's Element iQ system runs five independent quartz elements under digital PID temperature control, steering power to where heat is needed instead of running everything at once, and the convection fan has two speeds. It publishes an interior of 16 by 13.5 by 7 inches — the only spec sheet here that states usable internal volume outright, and the reason it takes a 9-by-13-inch pan, a 12-cup muffin tray or, per Breville, a 14-lb turkey.

Thirteen functions include the two that separate a serious countertop oven from a large toaster: Proof for dough and Slow Cook. It also has an interior light that comes on at the end of a cycle, an LCD that counts down after preheat, and a 2-year warranty at 1,800 watts.

It is also, by a distance, the most expensive machine here — and that is the con that decides it for most people. At 21.5 inches wide and 30.2 lb it takes over a real stretch of counter permanently. And if what you mainly want is crispy fries and reheated leftovers, you are paying several times over for a control system you will never stress. Buy it because you intend to stop using your wall oven; do not buy it as a nicer air fryer.

BLACK+DECKER 6-Slice — the cheap way to find out

If you are not yet sure the oven-style format suits you, this is the sensible way to test that without committing real money. It is a five-function machine — bake, broil, toast, keep warm, air fry — rated for six slices of bread or a 12-inch pizza, with a 60-minute precision timer that has a stay-on setting for longer bakes. It measures 16 by 18 by 11.2 inches and, at 14.46 lb, it is the only oven here light enough to lift with one hand and put in a cupboard.

Be clear about what you are not getting. BLACK+DECKER's listing publishes neither a wattage figure nor a warranty term, so we cannot compute its running cost and cannot tell you how long it is covered — both of which we would want before spending more. Five functions means no dehydrate and no proof, and the controls are dials. It is a good cheap oven; it is not a quiet bargain version of the Breville.

The spec nobody advertises: interior height

If you take one number away from this page, take this one. Oven-style air fryers are marketed on external size and quart figures, and both mislead. A 19-quart rating counts the empty air in a cavity; what limits you in practice is how tall the food can be before it touches the upper element.

Only two manufacturers in this field publish it, and the gap between them is the whole story: the Ninja SP101 states approximately 3 inches of interior height, and the Breville states 7 inches. Both are useful machines. But one of them roasts a chicken and slow-cooks in a Dutch oven and the other physically cannot, and you would never learn that from the function counts or the quart ratings on the front of the box.

Where a maker does not publish an interior height — Cuisinart, Instant and BLACK+DECKER all omit it — treat their stated food capacities as the better guide. Cuisinart rating the TOA-70 for a 4-lb chicken tells you more about the usable cavity than any external dimension does.

Plan for depth, and plan for the wall

Oven-style machines vent hot air, usually out the back or top, and they need clearance to do it. Combine that with a standard 25-inch counter and the depth figures here get tight fast: the SP101 is 19.72 in deep, the Breville 17.5 in, the Instant 16.53 in, BLACK+DECKER 18 in, and the Cuisinart only 12.25 in. Measure before you buy, and measure the gap to your upper cabinets too — heat rising into a cabinet base is the most common installation mistake in this category.

If that math is not working out, the honest answer may be that oven-style is the wrong format for your kitchen. Our best small air fryers guide ranks basket machines by measured width, and what size air fryer do I need works the capacity question from the other end.

What oven-style costs to run

Four of the five machines here publish 1,800 watts; BLACK+DECKER does not, so we leave it out rather than estimate. At 1,800 watts, a 20-minute cook uses about 0.6 kWh, or roughly 10 cents at the 17-cents-per-kWh US residential average. A 1,550-watt basket fryer over the same 20 minutes costs about 9 cents, so the formats are close enough that electricity should not decide this purchase.

The real saving is the one both formats share: heating a small cavity for 20 minutes instead of a full-size oven for an hour. The complete arithmetic, including how these compare with a wall oven, is in what an air fryer costs to run.

The verdict

For most people, buy the Ninja SP101. It is the only machine here that stops being a counter problem when you are done with it, and eight functions at 1,800 watts covers the realistic list. Accept the 3-inch interior — if you were going to roast whole chickens you were never buying this format anyway.

Buy the Cuisinart TOA-70 instead if your counter is shallow or you want the three-year warranty, which is the best cover in the category by a wide margin. Buy the Instant Omni Plusfor the longest capability list per dollar and the 170°F low end. Buy the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro only if you genuinely intend it to replace your wall oven — its 7-inch interior and PID control earn the money in that job and in no other. And take the BLACK+DECKER 6-Slice if you want to find out whether you like oven-style cooking before spending properly on it.

Still weighing formats? A two-drawer basket machine solves the "main and a side at the same time" problem that oven-style solves with racks, and it does it in less depth — best dual-basket air fryers covers that route. And whichever format you land on, the cleaning routine that keeps it crisping is in how to clean an air fryer.

Frequently asked questions

Is a basket or a toaster-oven air fryer better?

Neither is better outright — they are different shapes for different jobs. A basket puts food in a small cavity right under the fan, so it crisps harder and preheats faster in a much smaller footprint. An oven-style machine toasts, bakes and holds racks, and can retire a separate toaster, but it takes far more counter and generally has gentler airflow. Buy a basket if crisping is the job; buy oven-style if the machine has to do several jobs to earn its space.

What is the best air fryer toaster oven?

The Ninja SP101 for most kitchens, because it flips up and away to store against the backsplash — Ninja states 50% less space stored — and still runs eight functions at 1,800 watts. The Cuisinart TOA-70 is the pick if you want the longest warranty (3 years) and the shallowest body (12.25 inches deep).

Do air fryer toaster ovens crisp as well as basket air fryers?

We have not lab-tested these, so we will not claim a winner we did not measure. What is true from the mechanism: a basket keeps food close to the element in a small cavity, while an oven-style machine has to move air across a much bigger space. Manufacturers address that with stronger fans and multiple elements, but the physics favors the basket for pure crisping.

How much counter space does an air fryer toaster oven need?

More than you think, and depth is the number to check. Among the picks here, depth runs from 12.25 inches on the Cuisinart TOA-70 to 19.72 inches on the Ninja SP101, against a standard 25-inch counter — and these machines vent hot air, so they need clearance behind and above as well.

Can you cook a whole chicken in an air fryer toaster oven?

It depends entirely on interior height, which most brands do not publish. Ninja states about 3 inches inside the SP101, which rules it out. Breville states 7 inches in the Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro and rates it for a 14-lb turkey. Cuisinart does not publish an interior height but rates the TOA-70 for a 4-lb chicken.

Are air fryer toaster ovens expensive to run?

No. Four of our five picks publish 1,800 watts, so a 20-minute cook uses about 0.6 kWh — roughly 10 cents at the 17-cents-per-kWh US residential average. A 1,550-watt basket fryer costs about 9 cents over the same time, so running cost should not decide between the formats.
